Newton's 1st  Law  states that an object will do what it is already doing until acted upon by an unbalanced force.

Newton's 2nd Law states that the acceleration of an object equals the net force divided by the object's mass.

Newton's 3rd Law states that when one object acts on another object the second object will act right back at it in te opposite direction with an equal force.

Newton's Laws

Newton's 1st Law

All fores cause a change in motion whether a push or pull.

An object can either be starting, stopping, speeding up, changing direction, or slowing down.

IMPORTANT FACTS

Net Force- when all forces are added up

Velocity of an object- moving? not moving? left? right? up? down?

- V + 10 N = - V ( slowing down)

+V + 10 N = +V  ( speeding up)

Friction always opposes the motion or attempted motion of one surface across another surface.

When force being applied, the object gets faster and faster, but when you let it go it goes at a constant speed.

 A car going 60 mi/h.

-20N                         + 10N   = -10 N

The car is slowing down.

Newton's 2nd and 3rd Laws

This picture shows Newton's 2nd Law being inversely proportional

EX: Twice the mass 1/2 the acceleration

Thrice the mass 1/3 the acceleration.

Newton's 2nd Law being proportional.

Twice the acceleration, twice the Force

Thrice the acceleration, thrice the Force.

Newton's 3rd law

The hammer exerts a force to the nail and the  nail exerts an equal force to the hammer causing the hammer to recoil.

AIR FORCES

Applying Newton's Laws

1. As she travels through the air the drag force of air resistance increases.

2. Eventually the air resistance balances the weight. She has now stopped accelerating and is falling at terminal velocity.

3.When parachute opens drag force increases causing the woman to decelerate.

4. The drag force decreases until the two forces balance again.

5. She now travels at a slower constant speed, her new terminal velocity

until....

6.  She lands on the ground and causes her to decelerate quickly.
